Today I have the privilege of talking about the Teal Mini Swap, hosted and organized by EvaPaige Quilt Designs. Beth from EvaPaige Quilt Designs said, “I started this swap several years ago because I lost my own mother to ovarian cancer in 2002. It’s an insidious form of female-only cancer that affects far too many women at a prime time in their lives – average age of diagnosis is 57, which is exactly how old my mom was and is also a popular age for quilters. Awareness comes in as participants are invited to join the Teal Mini Swap Facebook page, where we share photos of our swaps, encourage each other to share articles and personal experience with ovarian cancer, and overall it has become a very lovely group of women who just want to make a difference. We have several survivors as members as well as a few who still fight. Sadly, we lost a member this year to the disease, but she’s a good reason to keep fighting.”
So, how does it work? You can register here. Participants are sent an 8″ square of the designated swap fabric along with info about their swap partner. Partners are matched 1:1 (in other words, you make a mini for your partner while she makes one for you) and the swap fabric must be used somewhere in the mini. You can choose to make a 10″ mug rug or 18″ mini quilt (choose when you register.) Everyone has until October 1, 2016 to get their mini finished and mailed to their partner. This year the designated swap fabric is being donated by Moda:
Participants pay $15 (US) or $18 (Canada) to register. $10 of that registration is donated by EvaPaige Quilt Designs to Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, while the remainder goes to expenses for running this swap, such as postage, ink, etc.
Quilters are some of the most generous people I know, so I know you will want to participate. Plus, it just sounds like plain old fun!!!
If you’d like to participate, just click here to register.
I hope you all will consider taking part in this wonderful event… You know, I often ask God how HE wants me to use my gifts. I’m not a doctor or a teacher or a powerful policy maker, and I don’t work in an overseas orphanage… I’m not a celebrity with a huge social platform… But I AM a maker… I create things with my hands… and I think He’d be really happy that we use our talents for something as important as this. To be honest, when first approached, I thought I was too busy to participate, but I’ve decided- I’m signing up! I hope you will too.
And now, I have a giveaway for you!
