Hey! Did you know that it is time once again for the Pets On Quilts Show over at LilyPad Quilting!? You can win prizes by submitting photos of your favorite furry child on a quilt (because you know, the pets always find the comfiest spots on our handmade quilts- oftentimes while the quilts are still works in progress…) And if you don’t have any pets, you can still “play along,” because you can submit photos of your pet-themed projects. Here are the categories:

1. Dog or puppy on quilt
2. Cat or kitten on quilt
3. Other animal on quilt
4. Dog-themed quilt project
5. Cat-themed quilt project
6. Other animal-themed project

There will be lots of great prizes, including this one that I am providing- 3 patterns, a package of note cards with my watercolor illustrations, and a fat-quarter bundle of my Happy Town fabric line (even the fabric has a pet theme!).

Some of the other sponsors include Hoffman Fabrics, Martingale Books, and Fat Quarter Shop- so you know it’s gonna be good 🙂

I am very well acquainted with “pets on quilts”:

Maddie in Studio

This is my cat Maddie, in one of her favorite spots- a pile of quilts stacked beneath my sewing machine table. Maddie is her official name, but her nickname is actually “Evil”- yes, that is what we call her and that is the name she answers to! Why, you may ask, would we call her something like that…. well, one time I had a quilt-top-in-progress laying on the floor, and she pooped on it! And then she wadded it up into a ball! So, because it wasn’t finished, I couldn’t wash it because I was afraid it would fall apart. I had to take it to the dry cleaners, and they charged me a pretty penny to get the stains out, and then I was able to finish it. So yes…. even though her behavior has improved considerably, the name has stuck!

And you’ve met Alfie- he is a good “quilt model”… he’s thinking of turning “professional”:

And he loves sleeping on my quilts, even when they are full of pins and I would like to go ahead and start that binding but how could I possibly move little Precious while he is napping and disturb him so I just do something else and wait for him to wake up so I can actually get my work done!

And these pet themed projects can be found in my book, Child’s Play:
